Note: The 2020 Rona Youth Sheep Expo is now over, thank you to the 70+ entries we received from across the country. We look forward to what the new year brings.
With an ever growing global population, the demand for meat and farmed products is at an all-time high, and growing quickly. Whether they be future scientists, teachers or industry producers, hundreds of teenagers and young adults are involved in the sheep showing industry around the world.
During this year’s hiatus from shows, expos, challenges, competitions and meetings our students are missing their involvement with sheep and losing interest. In order to combat this, I have launched a first-of-its-kind event titled the 2020 Rona Youth Sheep Expo. This event has two sections: a youth competition (for under 25s) like those we compete in at every show around the state, and an expo. Any and all are welcome and encouraged to join this event.
The demand to feed our population is growing, resources are decreasing and sheep products are competing for popularity in our modern society. The solution to this is creating efficient and sustainable production via the involvement of youth in agricultural industries through opportunities for teenagers and young adults to develop an interest in and learn from industry professionals. I hope this event will inspire youth involvement within school agricultural programs as well as the children of many wool and lamb producers.
